Letters From Lark

Hey there Reader!

In case you haven't realized it yet... I kind of love email marketing.

I've been managing email lists for a lonnnnng time. My band's list has been going for 8 years. My business list for 2. And I've been managing other people's lists for even longer. So when I tell you I've tried a lot of platforms and have opinions, I mean it.

But before I get into the which, I want to talk about the why for a second.

Email has been a lifeline for me in ways I didn't fully appreciate until I needed it.

It's what I've turned to when showing up on social media felt way too scary. When I didn't have the energy to perform, or the algorithm felt confusing, or I just couldn't do it in that season of my life. My list was still there. Still mine. Even when I needed a break.

It's what lets me go deep when socials feel too shallow. When I have a bigger idea, or a longer story I want to tell. Nobody's cutting me off at a certain number of characters, or telling me to prioritize a certain type of content that I'm simply not inspired to make. And there's something about that freedom that lights up my creative brain!

It's also what's helped me build actual relationships with people in my ecosystem (that's you!), instead of just shouting into the void and hoping a massive social media company allows someone to hear it.

And it's what helps connect the dots between all the visibility stuff I do in a low pressure way. Someone I meet at an event, or a referral who heard my name somewhere β€” when they join my list, they're in. They're not at the mercy of the scroll. They get to actually hear from me, even if they're not ready to work with me yet!

That's why I'll talk your ear off about email marketing if you give me half a chance, and why I care about having an email platform that doesn't make it harder than it needs to be.

Which brings me to Kit.

My opinion: most email platforms do way too much for tiny service providers. Packed with features you'll never use, buried under menus that require a tutorial to navigate (looking at you, Mailchimp.)

Kit does just the right amount. That's it. That's the review.

It's perfect for people like me who can easily end up on endless sidequests with too many features, long menus, and complicated integrations. The editor is live. What you see while you're building is what lands in inboxes. For visual thinkers, this is huge. You can correct a link after you send an email.

And it plays nicely with everything I already use: Squarespace, Canva, my whole setup. No weird workarounds.

They have a free plan, so there's no commitment pressure!

πŸ‘‰ Check out Kit here

And if you're already on Kit and want to talk about actually using it, hit reply and tell me how it's going! I have so many thoughts. πŸ˜„

With typos & joy,
Lark
